What is Idolatry?

3 "You shall have no other gods before me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. ( Exodus 20: 3-6 )




I will not allow it to ascribed to another; I will not allow another to assume or receive the honor which is due to me. To another - To any other; whether it be man, or whether it be an idol. God claims that all appropriate honors should be rendered to him, and that men should cherish no opinions, maintain no doctrines, indulge in no feelings, that would be derogatory to the honor of his name. This declaration is designed to counteract the propensity everywhere manifest to attribute to man that which belongs to God, or to ascribe to our own wisdom, skill, or power, that which he alone can accomplish. Neither my praise - The praise which is due to me. He would not permit graven images to receive the praise of having done that which he himself had accomplished.

This commandment prohibits every species of mental idolatry, and all inordinate attachment to earthly and sensible things. As God is the fountain of happiness, and no intelligent creature can be happy but through him, whoever seeks happiness in the creature is necessarily an idolater; as he puts the creature in the place of the Creator, expecting that from the gratification of his passions, in the use or abuse of earthly things, which is to be found in God alone. The very first commandment of the whole series is divinely calculated to prevent man's misery and promote his happiness, by taking him off from all false dependence, and leading him to God himself, the fountain of all good.

The Supremacy of the Son of God

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)
"Anointed One"  ...........
The Bible foretold the coming of the one who GOD would send as the "Messiah" ( from a Hebrew word) and "Christ" (from a Greek word) both mean "Anointed One." This promised One would be anointed, that is, appointed by GOD to a special position.

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi[a] from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”




3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:



6 “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,

are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;

for out of you will come a ruler

who will shepherd my people Israel.’[b]”

7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”



9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

Where was Jesus actually born? Why, in that very town! ( Matthew 2:1, 3-9)  Many centuries in advance, the prophecy recorded at Daniel 9:25 pointed to the very year when the Messiah was to apperear. The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.     “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One,^[d] the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. ( Danie; 9:25)

Relief fom STRESS!, Assaulted by STRESS!

It has been estimated that 75-90 percent of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress related problem. According to the National Cosumer League,"work is the top source of stress for adults who have problems and stress in their lives (39%), followed by family (30%), health (10%), economy (99%), concerns about terrorism (4%).

As a result of "work-related stress, depression or anxiety," there are "estimate thirteen and half million reported lost working days per year in Britian. Work-related stress has been shown to affected millions of European workers across al type of employment sectors." A report issued by a conference held in Tokyo concluded: " Job stess is common concern among many countries the world, both developing and industrialized countries."

However, you do not need a research study to tell you that people are under stress. More than likely, stress is exacing its toll on you too! What is stress? Stress may be defined as "physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension. A mild degree to stress and tension can sometimes be benefical." Feeling mildly stressed when carrying out a project or assignment often compels us to do good job and to work energetically."

So when is stress a problem? Says Stoppler: "It is only when stress is overwhelming, or poorly mangaged, that it's negative effects appear."

So lets Consider some common sources of stress.
1. The Stress of Making a Living:
Workers are often stressed on their jobs because, among other things, their is poor communication between management and employees. Whatever the reason, coping with the strains of the workplace may leave working parents with little energy to deal with the demands of their families. And those demands can be enormous.

2. The Pressure on Single Parents:
Single Parents likewise face high levels of stress as they try to meet the needs of their families. Getting up early to prepare breakface, dressing children and dropping them off at School, rushing to be at work on time, and then dealing with the demands of the job may leave single parent physical and emotionally exhausted. And when the workday is done, another cycle of stress is set in motion , picking up children from school, fixing dinner, and caring for the household chores

3. Children Undre Stress:
There are also the pressure of school. Parents should be a source of strenght for their children.

4. The Price of Stress:
Yes, when you feel stress, your heart rate and blood pressure soar. Your levels of blood sugar rise. Hormones release. "If tress becomes persistent," all parts of the body's stress apparatus( the brain, heart, lungs, vessel, and muscles) become chronically over- or- under activated. The list of illness in which stress may play a role is alarmingly long: heart disease, stroke, immune disorders cancers, musculoskeletal disorders, and diabetes, to name a few. Stressis a fact of modern living; it cannot be avoid entirely. There is much we can do to manage stress!

You Can Cope With STRESS!

Suffering in silence may only make you feel more pressured. Respectfully talking out problems with and employer may result in less job stress. By cultivating the confidence that God will provide your basic needs. " Stop being anxious about your souls as to what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your bodies as to what you will wear." od' promise is no empty platitude, Million of Christians today are sustained by it.

The Bible encourage parents to speak to their offspring at every opportunity, such as ' when sitting in the house and when walking on the road. Make eye contact. Avoid minimizing your children's problem. Encourage your children to express their feeling. Pray with your children. Communcation can help you to discern if you children are experiencing stress.

Caring for household chores can become another souce of stress. Some working mothers cope by simplifying their household routines. Yes, simplifying your household routines can reduce stress.

How to reduce Stress
-Give your body sufficient rest each day
-Maintain a reasonable diet. Avoid overeating
-Engage in proper and regular exercise, such as brisk walking
-If something worries you, talk to a friend about it
-Spend more time enjoying your family
-Delegate or share household chores
-know your own physicak and emotional limitations
-Set reaistic goals; do not be a perfectionist
- Be organized; have a balanced, reasonable schedule
-Cultivate Christian qualities such as mildness and patience
-Set aside some time for yourself.
